Specializing in Electrical Power, Controls & Instrumentation
The best place to watch Futbol (soccer) is actually from the middle of the field! Yes, as a Referee. Growing up in Montana, I never had the opportunity to play soccer as a kid. I wish I had. But having all three of my kids playing soccer, I have become a BIG fan. Eventually a Referee as well! See more below!
When I graduated from Montana State University in Electrical Engineering I thought I would be working for a company like Intel or something in electronics as that is what I really focused on in college. I managed to use those logic classes to become an Industrial Programmer using process control languages such as Johnson Controls Process Language, Ladder Logic, Structured Test, Function Block and Sequential Function Charts/Logic as well as Graphics Programming of numerous Human Interface packages such as WonderWare, Intellution, FactoryTalk, Ignition and other HMI packages. FUN, FUN, FUN! I have really enjoyed seeing the logic and inteface go together and then startup the equipment in the field! Absolutely exciting to start a 1000 HP motor with the push of a button on a computer. The picture to the left is similar to the Rotary Excavator I startup at the Zaldivar Copper Mine in Chile (SA). TOTALLY COOL!
I love to play with electronics, tinker on & rebuild cars and just have fun thinking up new things and then trying to build them! Years ago I thought of a unique idea. Why do we use an exhaust fan to remove the smells from the bathroom and waste all that heated air to the outside. In 2019 I finally built, "The Stinkerator"! It connects to the toilet bowl, removes the foul air from the bowl through a carbon filter and back into the room. I used cardboard, duct tape, a few plastic plumbing pipes, a 12V PC fan, 12V power supply and sheets of activated carbom filters I bought off Amazon. Ask my daughter, she likes it because it works! One issue, I waited to late for a patent and now there are similar units on the market for around $80. I will probably still publish my plans as a way to make your own, "Stinkerator". Look forward to a links page in the future for stuff to have fun building!
I became a referee because my son started refereeing soccer at 12. I sat in the car while he refereed U8, U9 & U10 games. I eventually got tired of sitting in the car and decided to become a referee too! I nevver knew how much fun it actually is to be in the center of a game, or as a assitant referee, making sure the kids play by the rules. I took both my son and oldest daughter to Olympic Development Camp in McMinville, OR. to train as referees. When you come back from that level of play, refereeing recreational soccer is a breeze!
I eventually was asked by a referee assignor who became the president of the South King County Soccer Referee Association (SKCSRA) to join him as a member on the Board of Directors. I became the Director of Recruitment and Retention and began recruiting referees all over the area. In 2018, as a board, we decide to crate a paid position that would involve the then president managing the SKCSRA. In the process, I became the President of the Board. That was a fun and exciting year.
In previous years we had trouble getting people to become board members and filling positions! At the Anual General Meeting in January 2020, we had so many (young) referees being nominated for board positions, I asked the person who was going to renominate me to not. I felt we, as a board, had achieved a goal we thought was not attainable, participation by the masses. What an exciting time! Achieving goals and increasing the revenue of the organization from $400k to almost $1M in five years! SKCSRA became the largest group of registered soccer referees in the State of Washington! WOOHOO!
Oh yea, I also coach soccer for Mr Ranier Futbol Club (MRFC) Special Olympics Unified Soccer! My youngest daughter is a partner on the team playing along side the special needs players. What a hoot winning Washington State Regionals and playing in State Cup!
